by Patti Callahan
The art of Patti Callahan’s storytelling captured me years ago when I found her first book tucked away on a library shelf. Callahan’s characters linger with the reader long after the book is closed—her writing is simply lovely.
Once Upon a Wardrobe is a story within a story. It’s 1950, Lewis’ first book in his new Narnia series The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is published. Narnia captures the interest of an ill seven-year-old boy. This book narrates the deep friendship between this boy and his older sister. Megs, a student at Oxford, takes George’s question to Lewis, who answers through a series of stories from his life. As the siblings consider Lewis’ stories, they learn that questions sometimes can’t be answered; they are like stories and must be told.
This was a wonderful read.
