Read Luke 15:11 ESV
Oh, Father, open our eyes to see and our ears that we might hear. You tell us that everything in your Word is given to teach us. Please teach us your truth through this story Jesus shared. Please help us to enter into the parable and watch and listen. Amen
And he [Jesus] said, “There was a man who had two sons.”
Our friend Luke records Jesus’ three parables about lost things—a sheep, a coin, and a son. In every parable, the lost thing is found. Then there is a celebration—a rejoicing, a hallelujah moment—here and in the courts of heaven.
Jesus begins his third story, “There was a man who had two sons.” The British monarchy might say “an heir and a spare.”
